The anime series “Leveling Up Alone ” once again broke viewership records after the release of its second season. Viewers continued to follow the adventures of S-rank Hunter Seong Jin-woo. However, not everyone fully understands or understands the details, only knowing that the Hunters are fighting against the Monarchs. The Hunter ranks have likely been clarified. E-rank is weaker than C-rank, which is inferior to B-rank, and so on. But how are these ranks assigned or acquired?
Ranks, Ratings, and Mana Values in Solo Leveling
When a person awakens as a hunter, their body begins to produce so-called mana, a powerful magical energy. The more mana produced, the greater the hunter’s abilities and skills. Since everyone has different amounts of mana, the Hunters’ Association has instituted a ranking system. Each hunter undergoes a kind of exam to confirm their rank. Statistically, only one-thousandth of a percent of people on the planet have awakened as hunters. Only they can close the gates to dungeons containing monsters. However, those of a certain rank cannot enter dungeons of a higher level, as they are guaranteed to die.
List of ranks in the Solo Leveling universe:
- E-rank – the weakest hunters, close to humans in abilities, most often do not participate in battles.
- D-rank – can enter dungeons, but are weak against powerful monsters.
- C-rank – participate in difficult missions, average in strength.
- B-rank – professionals, above average in combat skills.
- A-rank – the last rank before the highest in strength, experienced or distinguished hunters.
- S-rank – the strongest hunters with extraordinary combat abilities can become vessels of Rulers (Lords).
Rank is also important because each level determines a hunter’s reward. Over time, a whole lucrative industry has emerged around battling monsters. The higher the rank, the more money. So, does that mean you have to constantly climb the ranks to get a higher salary? But no, that’s very difficult. Mana is difficult to increase, even with intense and diligent training. After all, not every hockey player is destined to become Alexander Ovechkin, and not every scientist can win a Nobel Prize. Furthermore, S-rank hunters, the highest level, do not possess the same strength and abilities.
National level hunters (the strongest)
Hunter status is awarded by the Association of a specific country. The organization issues a license to enter dungeons, but from that point on, the hunter must comply with all the requirements of the national Association. Bonuses include high monetary rewards, free healthcare, and life insurance, with all proceeds transferred to the family. This is why Seong Jin-Woo decided to become a hunter. The title of “National Level” was awarded after several S-rank hunters slew the Kamish dragon and closed the first gate of the most difficult level. Although these hunters belong to a specific nationality and country, they enjoy the status of their own nation within a nation. They are treated with great respect, and their strength is far greater than that of the average S-rank hunter. This is because they received their abilities from the Rulers.
Christopher Reed (USA)
One of the most powerful S-rank Hunters in the United States and considered the third most powerful in the world. He is extremely proud of his abilities and often arrogant, which sometimes clouds his judgment. He prefers solitude. His courage is undeniable, as he was the first to attack the Monarchs, knowing their end was inevitable.
Thomas Andre (USA)
He is a member of the National Hunters and is considered the number one. He presents himself as a self-assured and level-headed individual with a strong sense of duty. He treats his enemies with respect. He is very grateful to Jin Woo for saving the lives of his guild members during their battle in the United States. His signature attire is his love of Hawaiian-style shirts.
Liu Jigeng (China)
A National-level hunter, ranked second in strength in the world. Always ready for adventure and seeking an opportunity to engage enemies. He was greatly disappointed that he was unable to face the Ant King.
Siddharth Bhachan (India)
The strongest hunter in the country and one of the National-Level Hunters, ranked fourth in the world. Liu Jigeng described him as a man with a strong savior complex. He always sought to save people, even when his help was not particularly needed. Bakhchan is a very ambitious hunter.
S-rank Solo Leveling Hunters from various countries
All national-level hunters are S-ranked, but not all S-ranked hunters attain this status. There are only a few hundred top-ranked hunters worldwide, with more in some countries than in others. Their strength cannot be measured by a mana meter; a special point system has been created for this purpose. Conflict between S-ranked hunters leads to enormous destruction. Baek Yun Ho
Baek leads the White Tiger guild and shows great concern for its members. At the slightest threat or even an insult to his team, Yun-ho is ready to engage in combat. Ko Geun Hee
Geun-hee is an elderly man and the first head of the country’s Hunters’ Association. He remains an official. His personal qualities—modesty, honesty, and a love of work—helped him rise to prominence. Geun-hee tries to surround himself with like-minded people and detests selfishness. The hunter has retired and is deeply distressed by his inability to fight, as doctors have prescribed rest.
Lim Tae Gyu
Lim comes across as self-assured. He has a considerable fortune, but he’s also known as a miser, trying to save wherever possible, which became evident during the raid on Jeju Island. When we first see Tae Gyu, he’s wearing a black suit, but during the raid on Jeju, he wears brown armor.
Ma Dong Wook
Don Wook is a hunter for the Slava guild and its leader. He is a friendly and sociable person, almost always seen smiling. He tries to avoid conflict. However, during raids, he reveals a completely different personality: ambitious and competitive. Don Wook is always ready to fight, spar, and demonstrate his judo skills.
Min Byung-gyu
Byung-gyu is known for his friendliness and compassion for others, and his abhorrence of violence. He ultimately retired early and planned to live a normal life as a school history teacher. But his plans were disrupted when the government announced it was planning a raid on Jeju Island. A sense of duty called Byung-gyu to the expedition against his will.
Sung Jin Woo
At the very beginning of the story, the protagonist of “Solo Leveling” was infamously known as the weakest E-rank hunter in humanity. He became a hunter to earn at least some money for his sister’s treatment. But circumstances allowed him to rise and become stronger than all the others. He was chosen by the System. Having gained immense power, Jin Woo remained a polite and calm young man.
Song Il Hwan
Il-hwan is Jin-woo’s father. Once a hunter, he was locked in a dungeon during an unsuccessful expedition, and everyone believed him dead. But the Rulers found him there and offered him the chance to become a human vessel, which resulted in Il-hwan gaining immense power and abilities. He values his family greatly and, after his return, does everything possible to ensure they have everything they need.
Cha Hae In
He Ying is an S-rank hunter and the deputy guild leader of the Hunters Guild. She is a very brave and sensitive woman, caring deeply for her guildmates. She constantly tries to provide cover for them during dungeon raids, staying close to the boss’s lair. She constantly hones her skills through training and is an excellent swordsman. In the human world, He Ying is very shy and considered an introvert.
Choi Jung In
An S-rank Hunter and Guild Master of the Hunters Guild, Jeong In is a perceptive young man with a cunning side, unwavering under pressure and quick to grasp the essence of things. He’s known to be a heavy smoker; if anyone wants to find him, the smoking room is the easiest place to do so.

Hwang Dong Soo
Dong-soo, a Korean immigrant, lives in America and is considered a ruthless hunter. Rising above humanity, he considers them nothing more than trash. He’s self-assured, but he’s smart enough not to argue with someone stronger than him. Hwang Dong-soo loves his brother Dong-sook very much. He would have loved for him to move to the United States with him, but that didn’t work out.

Akari Shimizu
A Japanese S-rank healer and member of the Naked Blades guild, Akari enjoys flirting with men, but she has a rather quirky personality. She’s also not averse to making money off her comrades, refusing to heal them unless they pay. She harbors feelings for one of them, teasing them and seeking more than just money.
Atsushi Kumamoto
A very insecure and cowardly hunter, he loses his composure at the first sign of danger, even when he has a significant advantage over his opponent. In combat, he chooses the weakest of his opponents and attacks them first, usually from behind.
Goto Ryuji
Goto gives the impression of a polite and confident hunter. But behind this mask lies a cruel man, seeking his own gain. For this purpose, he left Korean hunters to die and showed no mercy to the members of his Japanese guild. This behavior backfired.
Marie Isis

Linnart Norman (Germany)
The Hunter is ranked 12th in the world. He is polite, patient, intelligent, and not arrogant. He once had to wait over two hours for Jin Wu to speak privately, but he didn’t express the slightest displeasure. Norman risked his life to save Thomas Andre from Rakan.
Jonas (Brazil)
Jonas is ranked sixth among all hunters in the world, but we haven’t had the opportunity to meet him. He was scheduled to attend the International Guild Conference but failed to show up. Some time later, the Brazilian government reported that his body had been found in the river.
Jay Mills (Canada)
